Ascending Playwrights Program
APPLICATIONS FOR 2022
ARE CLOSING ON OCTOBER 31
The Ascending Playwright Program is a mentorship opportunity for new playwrights. Last year Yonder Window worked with playwrights age 18-25. This year we are excited to announce we are broadening the age bracket to 15-25.
Writers awarded a spot on our Ascending Playwright list will receive...
- a digital reading of their new play featuring professional actors
- a mentorship session with our Playwright in Residence; Grant MacDermott
- a featured spot on our social media and website
At the beginning of 2023, we will award one of our Ascending Playwrights $1,000 based on their growth during the mentorship period in 2022.
We are offering 6 spots in our program. Readings will take place every other month from January to December 2022.

Testimonial
Hi Yonder Window family! I just wanted to thank you all again for bringing my characters to life with such earnest, believable humanity and hitting the tone so beautifully, hilariously, on point. I couldn’t have imagined better suited, more intelligent or talented performing artists to help fulfill my vision and then travel beyond it! Soaking up your insight and inquiries afterwards was amazing and wildly helpful. You somehow magically articulated all my attempted intentions and how to actually achieve them. Now that I know what to focus on — hammering home each arc and stake, making my protagonist active, raking through the long drags — I feel fully rejuvenated to approach draft two. And this is before even speaking with Katie and Grant! It’s so rare for young new writers to get this opportunity, to be treated seriously and professionally and receive honest guided feedback from experienced creators around the world (literally!). So on behalf of all of us ascending playwrights, thank you (or in this case, “danke”)! Your company is making a difference. I’m so grateful, inspired, and excited to be connected
